The gold threads are rutile — titanium dioxide needles that grew inside the quartz before it finished closing. Collectors call it Venus hair. In crystal tradition it is read as clarity with a current running through it, which is why it is grouped with the working stones rather than the calm ones. Every bead has a different tangle of needles.
