Rhodochrosite grows in banded ribbons in old silver mines, which is why the best material comes out of Argentina and Colorado. In crystal tradition it is the stone people give themselves — worn for the ordinary and difficult work of being as kind to yourself as you are to everyone else. The pink bands are growth layers, like rings in wood.
