Smoky Quartz
Putting the day down.
What the tradition reads it as
Worn plainly and daily in Scottish cairngorm brooches long before it appeared on any crystal chart. Tradition reads it as ballast rather than lift — a settling, not a boost.
When people wear it
The end-of-day stone. Put on when you get home and the day is still running in your head at full speed.
What you are actually holding
Quartz browned by natural irradiation in the ground acting on trace aluminium. Depth of colour varies bead to bead, from champagne to near-black, and matched sets are cut from the same piece for that reason.
How to look after it
7 Mohs, tough, low-maintenance. Strong sunlight over years will lighten the brown; otherwise care for it as you would clear quartz.
Smoky quartz was the stone of Scottish cairngorm brooches, worn plainly and daily. Tradition treats it as ballast — not a lift, a settling. The colour comes from natural irradiation in the ground, and it varies bead to bead.
In a reading
Grounding in tradition — for keeping both feet on the floor.
Crystal meanings are described as cultural tradition, not fact. Stones and readings are offered for reflection, not as medical, financial, or legal advice.
